Laconia, NH - Laconia Motorcycle Week to Celebrate 89th Year

Progressive's Laconia Motorcycle Week, "America's Original Riding Rally," rounds out its eighth decade with a lineup of favorite events and activities, along with new additions to the schedule. Motorcycle enthusiasts are invited to visit and experience the scenery throughout The Granite State, along with racing and hill-climbs, bike shows and build-offs.

Riders can pick up a copy of the Laconia Rally News at Rally Headquarters (RHQ) at the Weirs Beach Waterslide. RHQ is also the place to pick up official souvenirs and get the latest news, schedule changes, and other important information.

Highlights from the schedule of events for the week include:
Daily Gypsy Tours leaving from RHQ showcase the great rides and unmatched scenery of New Hampshire. Riders can kick-off the week with the annual Peter Makris Memorial Ride on Saturday, June 9, or join any of the various poker runs and charity rides throughout the week.

An AMA Sanctioned Hill Climb will be held at a brand-new location in Canaan, and enthusiasts can enjoy the scenic ride to the climb from the Gypsy Tour that morning. Visitors can also take in the bike shows, swap meets, blessings and street action on Lakeside Avenue. The 89th Loudon Classic at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway includes Super Bike and Short Track races to end the rally with a bang!

"We look forward to showing our visitors a great time, and showcasing the amazing beauty and great people of New Hampshire," said Jennifer Anderson, director of Laconia Motorcycle Week.

New Laws Affecting Motorcyclists

Effective January 1, 2013: New penalties for motorcycle owners who have replacement exhaust systems or mufflers manufactured after January 1, 2013 installed in motorcycles built after that date that do not bear a legal EPA label.

Motorcycle riders are subject to a fix-it ticket if a peace officer stops them for loud mufflers. The law only applies if the original equipment muffler, or aftermarket replacement muffler has been manufactured after January 1, 2013 and does not have a federal EPA noise emission label. If the exhaust system in question was built before January 1, 2013, NO CITATION can be issued under CVD 27202.1
A rider can only be cited if first stopped for something else.

Citation shall be treated as mechanical violation, or fix-it tickets, which will be dismissed by the court for a nominal fee with proof of correction.

Fines are $50 to $100 for first conviction and $100 to $250 for second & subsequent citations.
Motorcycles with factory original exhaust and aftermarket exhaust manufactured before January 1, 2013 cannot be cited under CVC 27202. They can be cited under other excessive noise, or modified exhaust vehicle code sections.

AB 1708 allows the use of mobile electronics devices to establish proof of insurance when asked to provide it by a peace officer.

AB 1890 allows a toll road transponder to be carried on a motorcycle rider's person, rather be affixed to the motorcycle windshield which could be stolen.
